SEWING CLUB PODCAST EP 12 | OGDEN CAMI

SEWING CLUB PODCAST EP 12 | OGDEN CAMI

Step right up to Episode 12 of Sewing Club Podcast! We're celebrating completing a full year of monthly podcast episodes...it's been a whole lot of fun and we are so grateful to our incredible community of listeners who have supported our blossoming poddy!

Pattern: Ogden Cami by True Bias

Size: 2

Fabric: Deadstock silk crepe de chine from The Fabric Store (in store only)

Of course we couldn't go past sewing up one of the most sewn garments from a single pattern! Even though the Ogden Cami is a simple design, we knew we had to review it because of its enduring popularity...did you know there's 27.8k posts under the Ogden Cami hashtag on Instagram?! Talk about a viral pattern...

Let's talk about the fabric! I wanted something fairly neutral because light coloured fabrics (whites and creams) go well with my skin tone. And I also wanted to make sure it would go with most of the bottoms I've made this year for the podcast. This cream silk with mustard splatters was perfect...
The challenge was that the silk was very see-through...even if I was to make the facing as per the pattern instructions, you would see where the facing starts and ends. Luckily I had enough to cut a full-length lining. You might think you can cut two of the front bodice for this, but the lining pieces are drafted to be slightly smaller, so it's important to extend the facing piece itself!
I like that it's not too fitted around the bust area but still fitted nicely around the neckline; it provides a sense of security and closeness around the chest but then the rest of the garment has lots of ease. It's also bra friendly; you can wear a strapless bra with the thin-strap version and your regular comfy t-shirt bra with the wide strap version...a more recent addition to the pattern. What more could you ask for in a cami?!
I did go into this project knowing it would be quick, satisfying sew since I'd made it a few years back. That's part of the charm of this pattern and why it's so popular. It's also undeniably a wardrobe staple - easy to wear with jeans, tucked in or out. It would also go nicely with the Clo Bias Skirt or you could add a cardigan for layers; essentially a super flattering closet workhorse.

You can listen to Sewing Club Episode #12 on Spotify Apple Podcasts or Audible (insert other favourite poddy platform). Here you'll find all the show notes and we'll reveal the pattern for Episode #13, so do join with us in sewing along at home!
