From the very beginnings of Sewing Club Podcast, Gem and I have been musing about sewing and reviewing a zero waste pattern! And since I have been a fan and long time follower of Birgitta Herlmersson's aesthetic sewing Instagram and zero waste patterns, it was a no brainer to choose one of hers. The only problem was narrowing down to one!

I procrastinated on this one a lot! I think I felt really intimidated by the whole cutting of the thing, being zero waste. Eventually I cut it out and it was simple! And goes together really easily...it was just the initial cutting that was halting the process. So if you're used to indie patterns and are baulking at the idea of cutting without a pattern, forge ahead!

I sewed up the pattern as intended...the fabric I chose was quite wide so it resulted in more fullness in the sleeves than I liked. So, in the end I didn't end up attaching them. The way that the construction works is you make the sleeveless dress in full; then you make the sleeves separately and attach them after the garment is already finished. 

I really love how the armhole curve becomes the facing for the split in the dress at the hem. Genius! It goes together very smoothly, the construction is very easy, no darts, just a bit of gathering and binding...

I'm going to say that this version is a wearable toile. When I make it again I will make it more lightly and drapey fabric. I'll be making the sleeveless version again and will widen the straps slightly like the black version in one of Birgitta's sample pictures on the website.
